Las Vegas is home to countless bright lights, rows and rows of gambling devices such as the slots, roulette, and decks and decks of cards - all set in nothing but the finest gambling houses the world has ever seen.

Tonight is the night he'll watch the biggest Backgammon tournament. He will learn the way it is played. Every trick. Every cunning design. So when his time comes to execute his prowess, he'd have the skills to win.

In one of the countless books and magazines and articles he has read, there is only one common description of backgammon - the oldest game in recorded history and the most difficult to master. Despite all that, it didn't stop him to chance upon luck and skill.

For now he will be a silent observer. Innocent. Just looking around. But with a voracity that's tough to suppress.

Backgammon, being probably the oldest game in recorded history, is played by two players, each of whom, according to throws of dice, moves 15 counters on a specially marked board in an effort to be the first to move the counters off the board.

The board consists of 24 spaces or points. The checkers are moved according to the rules of the dice. While learning its rules may take a wise man minutes to understand, it would take even the most astute years to master the game. To some however, it is a game based purely on luck and skill. If one wins the game, then luck is on their side. When one loses, then one charges it to bad luck.

To start the ball rolling, the players each throw a die. This determines who goes first and the numbers to be played. If the equal numbers are up, then both players have to roll the die again until they have different numbers. The player's goal is to beat their opponent by stopping the other from bringing home their checkers.

The truth of this grand game is that this is a game not based on luck but rather on skill.

With the popularity of the Internet, backgammon can now be played anytime, anywhere and at one's convenience.

He had been inside the building for as long as he can remember. It seemed only minutes ago since he stepped inside the halls so lighted and had made his jaw drop. Yes. He had heard of it. But it's the first time he' s seen it. He had been entranced…

For now he had seen enough. Now it is time to seek respite. Tomorrow he still has countless articles to read. Rules to know and understand. He will come again…tomorrow night.
